Vivo V23 Pro – A New Flagship Of Vivo – Detailed Review

Vivo is kicking off 2022 with the V series, a mid-range smartphone. The V23 is available in two versions: V23 and V23 Pro. The highlights here are the colour-changing back glass, two front cameras for selfies, and the promise of good overall performance thanks to the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 CPU. Today we’re evaluating the Vivo V23 Pro, and here’s what we thought of the company’s newest phone.

6.56-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate | Mediatek Dimensity 1200 chipset | 8GB or 12GB RAM + 128GB or 256GB storage | Dual SIM | 5G| 4300 mAh battery | 108MP+8MP+2MP camera | 50MP + 8MP front camera | FunTouchOS12 based on Android 12

In India, the Vivo V23 Pro costs Rs 38,990.

What’s nice about the Vivo V23 Pro?

If you’re seeking slim phones with gorgeous designs, Vivo is a great option. The V23 Pro is one of the thinnest phones I’ve seen in a long time. It has the same curved edge display as its flagship X series phones. However, I must warn you that finding a screen guard can be difficult because of the curved edges. And, as I recently discovered, getting someone to install a screen guard on such a gadget is even more difficult.

The phone’s back is made of a colour-changing Fluroite AG glass, according to Vivo. When sunshine or any light strikes the gold at the rear, it takes on tones of sea-green blue. What’s more intriguing is that the bottom maintains a matte finish and is fingerprint-resistant mainly. It will keep its pristine appearance even if it isn’t covered. On the other hand, Vivo includes a plastic case in the box that you can use.

Remember that the device’s compact form comes at a cost: it lacks a headphone connector. There isn’t even a slot for a microSD card. However, Vivo includes a pair of headphones with a type-C to 3.5mm jack converter in the box. This is something we don’t see many businesses provide in their boxes these days.

Display:

A 6.56-inch full HD+ AMOLED display is included on the Vivo V23 Pro. This screen is bright enough for everyday use, such as gaming or viewing videos. In the sunlight, the display is also perfectly legible. It has a maximum refresh rate of 90 Hz, but the default setting is ‘Smart Switch,’ which means the phone will choose the best refresh rate based on the usage circumstances. However, throughout my review, I increased the frequency to 90 Hz. For improved battery performance, I would recommend keeping with this.

The MediaTek Dimensiy 1200 chipset powers the phone. I have the 8GB RAM+128GB variant for this review, which runs on FunTouch OS 12 on Android 12. The virtual RAM function, which we’ve seen on many other handsets, is also used by Vivo. This allows for an additional 4GB of storage designated as ‘Extended RAM,’ though you can also disable it from the settings.

Performance:

Vivo V23 Pro Performance

The Vivo V23 Pro performs admirably daily. There were no glitches or stutters when switching between different programs or playing games. Asphalt 9, Genshin Impact, and Mars: Mars all ran flawlessly. The phone’s compact design made it simpler to handle throughout long gaming sessions, which I appreciated. However, after just ten minutes of Genshin Impact–a more resource-intensive game–the phone became a little warm towards the top.

Camera:

Vivo V23 Camera

The camera of the Vivo V23 does a fantastic job in solid daylight, capturing lovely details and attractive colours. Although the photographs are a little more saturated than I want, most people will be satisfied. The skin tones are also more natural. However, the camera still makes one look overly white in various lighting settings.

I particularly appreciated the front-facing selfie camera because it took extremely nice and natural photos. My skin has flaws that may be seen, but it does not appear to be too processed. The camera also works well in low-light conditions, and Vivo has nailed the software on this front. When clicking in night mode, remember to keep the camera motionless.

What’s not to like about the Vivo V23?

When you move to the other two modes (ultra-wide and macro), though, the quality drops dramatically. The ultra-wide, in particular, is underwhelming. When you zoom in on images taken in this mode, details are lost even if the lighting outdoors is good.

Another issue I encountered during the study was that the night mode did not function properly at first. Every time I used it, all I got was a black photo. The problem was resolved by restarting the camera. Vivo acknowledged the issue and offered an update to address it. Thankfully, I did not have to deal with the same problem again.

The phone’s battery is the phone’s other weak point. Vivo has chosen a 4300 mAh battery, which will last for around a day when used moderately to heavily. Yes, it has a 44W rapid charging capability. However, people who spend a lot of time gaming or are attached to their phones for extended periods may find the battery inadequate. In some circumstances, most other phones now have a battery capacity of 5000 mAh or higher. For some users, this may be a deal-breaker.

The verdict on the Vivo V23 Pro

The Vivo V23 Pro delivers on most of its promises. It boasts a trendy design, good performance, and a good camera, albeit it could be better in specific scenarios. On the battery front, I believe it is a compromise. However, this will also depend on the user’s day-to-day usage. The lack of a microSD card may be a deal-breaker for specific customers.

However, the phone’s pricing of Rs 38,990 (for the Pro variant) indicates that it will face stiff competition in the market. The OnePlus Nord 2, which has the same processor as the OnePlus One, starts at Rs 29,999. The Poco F3 GT does as well, and both are capable devices. Keep in mind that the higher price you’re paying is for the style and dual-selfie cameras.
